INTRODUCTION
This module basically is to help us open up our mind towards our communities and let us learn that being good in studies and other stuffs is not enough, we need to be able to think, care and be responsible towards our community. It lets us explore and with that puts our ideas and thoughts into action. Here we need participation, willingness and the dedication towards our respective responsibilities where by we will be exposed to the lives of different people and how our surroundings really are. Hence, our ideas and techniques are really tested in this module.
We must be able to work in a group with cooperation, coordination and togetherness, thus we are divided into 6 groups for this first mission of ours. We are given a "PROBLEM".
Location -- Ulu Melaka Orang Asli Village, Serendah, Selangor
We are needed to help make a better place for the children there who are less fortunate to be able to live, learn and feel like every other child living comfortably and happy. Surroundings matter a lot especially when it comes to children because they are very delicate and sensitive, hence we are intended to fix, paint, repair, transform or replace their interiors and exteriors including their surroundings and it more alive and hygienic. These are some of the pictures of that have been taken by our seniors when they went to pre-measure the site and learn more about the place .
WALL AND FLOOR TRANSFORMATION
we the students had been informed and briefed about on the whereabouts of this place and so were allowed to volunteer in the works we were interested in, thus forming groups of six. me and my friends had volunteered in Group 3 which focused more on the interior walls and the floors. AFTER THE DISCUSSION
On the 26th of April 2019, we had our CSI class and all of the groups had their presentation slides ready for the discussions, remarks, changes and to make a decision for the final outcome. All of the students participated in it and we voted for the majority to be selected, hence after all the discussions and the voting we changed what was needed to be changed and thus have a clearer vision on how or what the final outcome would look like.
This is our Group presentation slides for out proposal which have been altered from the previous one.
The close up.
MY REFLECTIVE JOURNAL - SELDON
"Only a lit butter lamp can light the rest of the butter lamps and yet when the first lamp dies, the rest of the lamps still owns their light".
With that said, there are a very few people who really think and care about other people, what they wear, what they eat,how they live, their family budget and many more. Now when i say one does not care about others, by"OTHERS" i mean people who are less fortunate or who tend to really need some attention or support. We always care about the rich or fortunate people, admiring their houses, their wealth, their cars, their lives and just wanting to become them when in reality we just want more of what we have. Wanting more just energizes or gives fuel to our ego, attachment, greediness and selfishness enabling us to turn into a self centered person. And when one becomes a self centered person he/she tends to be blinded by all the illusory components in this world. I for one, am an aware person regarding this situation even if i am not able to help millions or even thousands, i try my best to help the people surrounding me and there is of course failures and disasters along the way but it still does not hold me down for we are human beings, thus it is our nature. I would rather feel surprised, amazed and in shock if I saw a person who helped others not for gain, fame or just because he/she had enough or more to give than a person who could fly or read minds or even vanish into thin air. I could even prostrate to such great existence who really had loving compassion towards all the living beings or sentient beings. Thus, with this comes in the Topic of COMMUNITY SERVICE INITIATIVE, a subject which has depth in it and that really matters or counts. In our own world of college, project submissions, family issues or financial issues we tend to get blinded and often forget to be Kind, Helpful, understand that other people live their lives too and that it might be 10 times stressful than yours because it is.
We are always faced with problems wherever we go, there is no such place where you can not find a problem. I am not talking only about your problem, i am referring to the problems of every one who passes by. Some people do not even know if they would get a meal for dinner, some just want a pair of shoes for every activity they do because that would be his/her only pair, some wish to go to school and probably that would be a dream come true for them and yet some just beg, for it has become a time pass for them. One person could generate thousands of problems hence think of how many problems millions of people could generate. But i am not going to talk about problems here because it would be a never ending debate and again this is a place for us to attempt problem solving,be active, be bold, intake and outtake of ideas/strategies , be loving and caring as much as we could, give to your society and just give do not expect and just develop that inner nature of loving compassion.
"One's Garbage can be others gold".
THANK YOU.
MY JOURNAL - SELDON
This whole CSI project would not have been achieved if it were not for "KANSAI PAINT", our main sponsor and all the students and people who donated books and other stationary supplements for the Orang Asli children and of course our tutor/guide Ms. Norji Nasir.
When we were made to volunteer in joining the groups we wanted to, I directly aimed for group 3 because I had an interest in painting and thought that I could be off some help to that team. I was directly thinking about the interiors that the infants have, that one cozy, creative and beautiful room that every parents make for their babies because most of the children there weren't fortunate to have one. Our team were assigned for the interior walls, floor and the window. When we saw the pictures I thought that it wasn't that bad as i was expecting a situation where the houses did not even have roofs and thus i felt a bit good but yet again the conditions were not so good. Anyhow our team had chosen leaders among the subdivided units i.e the flooring group, the window group and the painting group. Of course everyone wanted to be the leader but that was not possible. Then the leaders actually made all the decisions on what they preferred for the walls and all but we gave our suggestions on it. There were 30 people in the group hence there wasn't much discussion among and I think that it is indeed alright for it to have happend because all of us were ready to do the hard work and get into the main labor work should I say. And as they were presenting everyone of us in the group had our eyes wide open for we were scared that our slides were not good enough but every thing turned out fine and we love the class that day. All of the students were really ready to help and give in to making that place a much healthier and much more sanitary to study and grow up for those children. For the interior wall, we had first approved of the space theme but again since we had to match with the exterior walls we changed it to making it more greener and nature related with paining cactus's on the wall. We also had an idea of painting in different animals on the windows but that was a bit time consuming given the time we had, hence we had to drop that and just give the windows a fresh coat of grey paint with blue frames. So before the big day renovation we had a lot of meetings to prep ourselves but 28th of may 2019, i think was the most important one because we could see it all come together. During that meeting we had planned the :
ACTIVITIES
Pre-cleaning interior - exterior
Flooring
Base - coat painting
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT'S
Ladder, brushes, broom, paint, Detergent
DATE AND TIME
Phase 1: 1st June (Saturday)
Time : 9 a.m - 6 p.m
Phase 2 : 15th June
Launching : 22nd June
TRANSPORTATION : 4 cars
1st OF JUNE ( The first phase )
The day had finally come after so much planning and meetings, there were suppose to be 25 of us but our leader could not make it that day but anyway we had successfully left at 9:00 a.m. It was about a 40 minutes drive from our college campus to the library. As soon as we reached there we started doing our own works assigned but we had problem starting off as our leader was not around. we could not really figure out what to do at first but then we helped each other as there weren't enough students that day. Only the nine of us had come from group 3 and it was really confusing as to who would do what because there was so much to do. This wasn't the only problem we faced, it so turned out that our tools and equipment's weren't on sight and we were using the tools of group 2. Even though problems occurred, group two were generous enough to let us use their tools and thus we continued our work. First was the removing of the old furniture's which were really rotten in case of woods and rusted in case of metals. We dismantled the furniture's that could be dismantled and moved them out and it was surprising how little girls could pick up heavier things than we could, with that being said i asked a girl in English if she could lift it and she started giggling looking at her friends probably because she didn't understand what i was saying to her but then she stared at me as if she wanted to copy what i just said and we both smiled at each other. I couldn't have wished more for her to speak English and be able to communicate with who ever she wanted to and especially being able to grasp what ever she wanted to from what the world has got to offer. So, mean while the book sorting groups sorted the books and then shifted them to another room. We then removed all the boards, art works, flags and wall paper arts from the walls but doing that was probably the most hardest part for me and all the girls, even boys i must say. The reason being that there were lizards and ant nests with ants crawling all of the walls and the book shelves which made it hard for us to work. We still continued to work with fright and almost everyone shouting and screaming LIZARDDD. we got the bug spray to get rid of the ants and we could get rid of them but the lizards were a huge disturbance. so moving on, after the room was cleared we sweeped the floors and the walls, removed the dirt's from the mesh, removed the flooring and basically tried to make it clean for the next step which was washing the house. All of us tried to wash off the dirt's of both the exterior and the interiors which probably took us a lot of time. After the washing had been done we needed for it to dry up for us to continue with the next phase which was the base coat so we all took a break and went for our lunch where we had prawn fried rice and trust me after a no breakfast work, that lunch was heaven. But anyways our lunch probably took us like 40 mins and then it was back to work again because the walls had dried as we expected it to but the floor were still wet and we needed it to dry up as we had decided to apply epoxy the same day . Well we waited for it to dry and while doing so we did the base coating of the walls i.e both the interior and the exterior walls. It took us a lot of time as there were only 9 of us who were doing it but we had to keep going as we knew we had less time. It took us the most time for base coat and by then we had decided that the epoxy for the floor needed to be done another day. Each of us took rest and continued painting little by little and we probably finished it off before 6:00 p.m. We all sat down inside the room exhausted but content that we could do something useful and that our time wasn't wasted, after that we all headed out and then the library was locked. Hopefully we were all not so exhausted for a picture so we sat in front of the library and took some pictures together with some children there who were really shy, they covered their faces and giggled. It was really interesting how all of the people who stayed there knew each other and i know it is a thing about villages where everybody knows each other but it was just the bond they shared which we could see was very comfortable, casual and at home feeling. We then left by 6:00 p.m slithered with paint and exhaustion.

JUNE 8th 2019 : During June 1st our flooring group weren't able to do their work as the floor took time to dry up and thus they had to go again to do the floor work. 5 students went there at around 9 a.m and they had started their work as soon as they reached there. They scraped off the unwanted dirt's formed on the floor and the base coat from the previous work and then filled up the holes on the floors to make it even. They then cleaned the floor and applied the first coat of epoxy and that was probably their task which had been done within a quick span of time. They then locked up the library and left for it to dry and for the next group to be able to move on with their task.

The students who were assigned this task started off their day at around 9:20 a.m in the morning. They had every thing planned out and their equipment's ready. Even though most of us weren't there to see it, we could see the works shared though Instagram and our whats app group.
JUNE 22nd 2019
The grand opening day of the mini library. All of the small details that had to be done had been done and it wouldn't have been a better opening to surprise the children there into their new library. These were some of the pictures shared during the event of the prep and the opening.

THANK YOU!
