ARC 60708 Advanced interior Architecture 1 (Semester 6)

LECTURER: Mr. Redzwan, Mr. Romzi, Miss Aziah

This is semester 6 of my BIA journey, Advanced interior architecture 1 is one of the modules for this semester where the subject/topic is based on the idea generation exercise from DESIGN PROPOSITION module where the two modules go hand in hand.

  1. Task 1: Identify a FOCUS /DETAIL and choose a MEDIUM; whereby this will represent the direction of the project. The MEDIUM is to be elaborated, defined, and tested to see how it works within the identified area/space. This will be developed through a series of prototyping, testing, contextualizing and documentation accordingly. Using a combination of written, graphic, animation, physical, projections and material explorations, you will begin to interpret a means of communicating through storyline, research, and experimental prototyping through a series of visual narrative.

  • Ideation: Everybody has a point in their life when they’ve just had enough of their lives and want to escape reality or disappear somewhere, this emotion or feeling occurs when one faces embarrassment, disappointment, unfulfillment in life, stress, and loneliness. It is a huge contributor to why most people do drugs, to escape their harsh reality. Our minds can easily be manipulated or captured by what we see and what we hear, so my idea involves using visuals and sounds to capture one’s full concentration and let them forget about their daily lives and just live in the present. One of the inspirations I took is from the Vincent Van Gogh museum where the art and the colors tend to capture a person’s curiosity thus capturing their full attention. We, humans, have a huge connection with Nature because it is what keeps us alive and working. Researches show that most people who work at night with no exposure to sunlight/greeneries tend to have a shorter, unhealthier, and unhappier life than people who work during the day. Nature directly or indirectly has the capability to heal or calm us and that too just by hearing and seeing a sight of it refreshes our brain.

  • Visual Narrative:

  • Medium Ideation: Design/create glasses/face shield/ helmet to see the Impossible colors or the colors unseen to human eyes.

  • How? Through Polarization, given below is an image of the experimentation done where polarization of light is taking place using two polarizing filters and a clear sheet. Strips of sellotape are randomly pasted on the clear sheet. while the polarizing sheet is rotated with a back lighting of the sun, we can see the different colors unseen to human eyes.

2. Task 2: Programming; During this phase, all works pertaining to the understanding of the context and location of the project proposal needs to be identify. This is the final stage before exploring the interior part of the project. This includes site analysis, understanding of context and surroundings, environment, society, and all surrounding it.

  • The concept of programming is from the chakra system where specific colors rule over specific parts of a body, healing someone mentally and physically.

3. Task 3: Referencing

  • Same; all the same – existing project(s) that have all the criteria you are looking at; in terms of programming, site representatives, activities and possible features

  • Similar but not the same – existing project that have some similarities toward what are you looking at BUT some feature may not what you what

  • Totally different – only has some features that you would like to adapt into your proposal; as inspiration towards your project etc.

4. Task 4:Site;

  • The main focus/concept for the final presentation board was light and dark, that is why I wanted the board to be black and white. Only the programming was to be colorful exactly like how I want the whole structure, building to be a box of color in a dark society.
